Benalmadena is a cosmopolitan town with a vivacious tradition of celebrations.
Celebrations are important and are held all year round in Benalmadena.

APRIL
SEMANA SANTA or holy Week is a special time in Benalmadena.
There are traditional religious processions through the streets of
Benalmadena Pueblo and Arroyo de la Miel.
Also in the old village of Benalmadena Pueblo, there is a live re enactment of
“The Passion of Christ” The procession is known as “EL PASO”
The procession starts at sunrise on Friday of the “Virgen de la Soledad”
The local villagers re enact this most important and traditional celebration in Benalmadena.
JUNE:
The people of Benalmadena Peublo also celebrate “Corpus Christi”.
Flower petals and herbs are spread on the streets by he villagers on the eve of the procession. The village streets are transformed and appear to be carpeted in a rich aromatic sensuous veil.
Arroyo de la Miel celebrates the Day of San Juan from the 24th – 29th of June.
There is an annual local fair and evening celebrations. This celebration is a particular favourite as it is also the start of the warmer nights on the coast.
Fireworks and bonfires can be seen all over Spain.
El Polideportive de Arroyo de la Miel holds its sports day at the end of June. This coincides with the end of the school term. It marks the start of the summer holidays.
JULY
Benalmadena Summer Festival of Music is celebrated from the 15th – 29th July.
The Auditorium of the Parque de La Paloma in Arroyo de la Miel is the venue for theatre and dancing.
The celebration of “Veladilla del Carmen” is held on July 16th. It has become very popular with the locals. A special mass is held in the Church Square, Avendida Bonanza at 19:30 and then the virgin is carried down to the sea. The procession is continued by boat at 20:30 from Benalmadena Port. At 21:30 music and dancing continue ‘til dawn. Watch out for the spectacular fireworks display when the virgin reaches the sea.
AUGUST
Benalmadena inhabitants celebrate the festival of the “Virgen de la Cruz”. This annual festival is of great cultural importance and tradition. A procession is led through the streets of the Peublo.
