It makes you think...

I read something in the newspaper today that actually made me cry. Not just shed a tear, but really cry. It was about a woman in Florida who had 7 kids, 5 of which she had lost custody due to some child abuse allegations. The custody went to her mother, their grandmother. Anyway, on Christmas Day 2 years ago, the grandmother - disobeying a court order that said the mother couldn't see her kids - let the kids go stay with their mother.

One of them was 3 years old. He had soiled his nappy so she plunged him into scalding hot water, causing severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns over his body. But that's not the worst of it. She then left the burns untreated for a week, until he died on New Year's Day 2006.

Can you imagine the pain and suffering that child went through for a whole week? I can't even comprehend it. And when I look at my own two beautiful girls, I can't work out how a mother could do that to her own child!

She got 60 years, but I think they should have done back to her what she did to her poor defenseless little boy. 3 years old! What is the world coming to?

It puts things back into perspective though, doesn't it? It's all very well to live in nice houses and apartments in Benalmadena but really, that isn't as important as having healthy, happy, kids, is it?

We spent the afternoon at the beach looking for shells today. I thought of the life that that poor little boy had led, how horrible it must have been and I tried to think he was in a better place as I gave my girls an extra tight hug whilst we were there.
